The location of the school district office is accessible to everyone, with a wheelchair accessible parking lot and entrance. However, this does not reflect the overall quality of the experience for students and parents.The presence of police officers on campuses is quite common, and it can be intimidating for students to see them carrying multiple weapons, including pistols and a taser. The response to minor issues by calling in police officers can be disproportionate and creates fear among students. I have witnessed a situation where a police officer was called to a special needs class because students were playing around, and the officer removed students from the classroom, demanded answers, and threatened to take them to the police station if they did not speak.This type of response raises concerns about students' rights, including the right to remain silent. It also highlights the need for trained counselors in such situations rather than police officers. The school district needs to work on finding a better balance between safety and creating a supportive environment for students.The main issue here is the over-reliance on police presence on campuses, which can have a negative impact on students' emotional well-being and their ability to learn.
