I visited Jekyll, a hidden speakeasy in Hyde Park, Tampa. The entrance, behind a non-descript bagel shop, sets the tone for an exclusive experience. I was warmly welcomed by the staff, and our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu.
The food and drinks were creatively presented, with a focus on storytelling. Each drink had a unique name, story, and presentation, which added to the charm of the place. The quality of the food and drinks was high, with some standouts like the truffle risotto and the Lost in Translation drink.
The atmosphere was intimate and romantic, with dim lighting and comfortable seating. However, the music was occasionally too loud, and the price point was on the higher side.
One major issue I had was the inconsistent service. While our server was excellent, other staff members seemed less attentive and less knowledgeable about the menu. This inconsistency affected the overall experience and made it feel like a letdown.
Despite this, I would still recommend Jekyll for a special occasion or a unique experience. The creative drinks and food, combined with the exclusive atmosphere, make it a standout in Tampa's nightlife scene. However, be prepared for a higher price point and inconsistent service.
To improve, Jekyll should focus on standardizing their service and ensuring that all staff members are knowledgeable about the menu and can provide excellent service to all guests. With this, Jekyll could become a truly exceptional experience that lives up to its potential.
I would give Jekyll 4.4 out of 5 stars, with the only deduction being for the inconsistent service. I hope to see improvements in the future and would recommend Jekyll to those looking for a unique and memorable experience.
