Ever wanted to make your own mini magazine? This hands-on 'Zine 101 workshop will introduce you to the fun and freedom of self-publishing. Zines are all about DIY creativity and sharing what matters to you - whether that’s a personal story, a favorite niche interest, your artwork, or an idea you can’t wait to put out into the world.
There’s no single right way to make a zine. Depending on what you want to express, you can combine words, images, illustrations, and all kinds of materials to create something uniquely yours. You’ll explore a variety of examples, discover different formats and techniques, and get plenty of inspiration for your own mini publications.
By the end of the class, you’ll have made at least two mini zines, with the chance to create even more. The goal is to experiment, have fun, and see just how much you can do with a small booklet and a big imagination!
Vintage and modern materials will be provided, along with your own kit to keep making zines after the workshop.
Please note: This is an in-person class.
What exactly is a zine? These small, independently made publications have roots in early science-fiction fan magazines from the 1920s and later became a staple of punk and counterculture scenes. Today, zines remain a creative way to share personal perspectives, niche interests, art, and ideas outside traditional publishing.
